Terms of use
Wi-Fi Companion helps you discover published Wi-Fi locations and remember networks you are allowed to use. Apple's standard app licence applies to the app.

Using the catalogue
Catalogue entries are sourced observations, not guarantees that a hotspot is operating, free, in range or able to provide internet access. Some sources are historical. Check the source date, access conditions and venue instructions before relying on a listing.
Use only networks you are authorised to access. Community passwords are shared by other people: they can be wrong, out of date or limited to a venue's customers, so follow the venue's own rules. This app does not unlock unknown passwords, scan all nearby networks, provide a VPN or eSIM, or automatically complete venue sign-in pages. iOS controls network joining and asks for your approval.
Previously loaded hotspot lists remain available offline. Complete downloaded regions include their offline map and listed hotspot details within the advertised coverage. Download the region before losing connectivity. Online map previews and directions still require a connection or existing provider cache. OpenRoaming availability and enrolment are controlled by independent providers.
Sharing Wi-Fi
You can share the Wi-Fi details a venue gives its customers or the public, such as a café, library, coworking space or shop. Sharing needs Sign in with Apple. Browsing and joining don't need an account.
Share only networks that are free and that the venue offers to its customers or the public. Never share a home, staff, hotel room, paid, voucher, ticket or personal login, or a password someone asked you to keep private. Sharing a network without the owner's permission can be an offence.
When you share, you confirm the statements shown in the app at that time. If a statement isn't true, don't share.
Your shared Wi-Fi, the place, and any note are public in the app. Your name and Apple ID are not shown. Each contributor has a random public code so people can hide their contributions.
You keep any rights you have in what you share. You give Genesis Vanguard Pty Ltd a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, check, format, correct, display and distribute it in Wi-Fi Companion, including in downloaded maps, and to remove it. The licence ends when the contribution is removed, except for copies already downloaded to people's devices and anonymous confirmation counts.
Don't share personal information about other people, anything offensive or unlawful, fake confirmations, or automated submissions.
We check contributions with automated filters and people. A new network goes public after the sharer's phone joins it with the shared details, or after another person confirms it worked. Names that look like home routers, phone hotspots or vehicles are held for a person to review. We may hide or remove a contribution that breaks these terms, is reported as private, is removed at the venue's request, or stops working. We tell the contributor the reason in the app.
Venue owners and managers can ask us to remove a network at wificompanion.pages.dev/remove-wifi. A matching listing is hidden straight away; otherwise a person checks the request within 48 hours. Once removed, the same network name at that place can't be shared again.
If you think we removed something wrongly, or want to complain about a decision, contact [email protected] with the reference shown in the app. A person reviews every complaint.
A person decides whether to suspend sharing for an account that repeatedly breaks these terms. We tell you why, and you can contact us to ask us to reconsider. You can still browse and join.
Sharing isn't available yet in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, or for places there.
Points
You earn points for Wi-Fi you share once someone confirms it works, and for telling us whether a network worked. You get the same points whether it worked or not.
Points have no cash value. They can't be bought, sold, transferred or exchanged for money, goods or subscriptions, and they aren't property.
We remove points earned from false or abusive contributions and tell you why.
We may change how points work for a reason we tell you, such as preventing abuse, a legal requirement or a change to the app. We give at least 30 days' notice in the app before a change reduces points you've already earned.
Points end when you delete your sharing account.
Subscriptions
The purchase screen shows the available plans, local price, billing period and any introductory offer that Apple confirms you are eligible for. A trial is not available to every customer. Check Apple's confirmation before subscribing.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled through your Apple subscription settings. Apple controls billing, cancellation and refunds under its terms. If you cancel a free trial, Apple may end trial access immediately.
Basic public catalogue updates, saving public places and the private notebook are free. A current Plus subscription enables downloading and updating complete offline regions. Your own private networks, already loaded public listings, saved public places and downloaded regions remain available after subscription access ends. Restore purchases in Settings when you need to recover an existing entitlement.
Nothing on this page removes rights you have under applicable consumer law.
Sources and support
Each hotspot retains its publisher, licence and attribution. Source licences govern the underlying public data. The app's software notices identify included open-source components.
